Job Description

Thorlabs seeks an enthusiastic Electrical Engineer to join the Thorlabs’ Laser Division team.

Purpose of the Position

This position is responsible for all phases of electronic product development including design, debug, compliance, and sustaining. This position will contribute to several product lines, including ultra-fast fiber lasers and low-noise lab instruments.

 

Essential Job Functions include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Electronic circuit design, development, and testing
  • Mixed-signal printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) schematic design and layout
  • Cabling design and documentation
  • Hands-on debug and testing of boards and electronic assemblies
  • Production support and new product electronic assembly process development
  • Supply chain management for critical ICs and other board components
  • Sustaining support for existing products
  • Mentoring of Peers, Engineering Technicians, or New Hires

 

In addition to the essential functions and duties listed above, all positions are also responsible for:

  • Meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis, performing all work-related tasks in a manner in compliance with all Company policies and procedures.
  • Adhering to Company policies, procedures, and directives regarding standards of workplace behavior in completing job duties and assignments.

Qualifications

 

Experience:

·        5 – 9 years professional electrical engineering experience.

 

Education:

·       BSEE or MSEE from an accredited institution or equivalent knowledge and experience

 

Specialized Knowledge and Interests:

·       Capable user of modern PCBA design software. Altium Designer strongly preferred.

 

·       Knowledge of typical electronic test instruments such as multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and spectrum analyzers.

 

·       Familiarity with embedded digital electronics including microprocessors, microcontrollers, and memories.

 

·       Familiarity with common digital interconnects such as Ethernet, I2C, SDRAM, SPI, and USB and signal integrity concerns therein.

 

·       Experience with high-density, fine-pitch (<0.8mm), integrated circuit packages such as ball-grid-array (BGA) and quad-flat-no-leads (QFN).

 

·       Competence as an analog and power electronics designer.

 

·       Understanding of sources of noise in electrical circuits and strategies for mitigating noise.

 

·       Experience designing for regulatory compliance standards, including emissions and immunity.

 

Physical Activities:

 

The employee must frequently lift or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects up to 25 pounds.
