Institute of Applied Physics - Nello Carrara

The “Nello Carrara” Institute of Applied Physics (IFAC) is part of the National Research Council (CNR), which is the main public organisation pursuing research and innovation in Italy.

IFAC carries out research activities, experimental development and technological transfer in many areas of Applied Physics, as:

  • SPACE, AEROSPACE and EARTH OBSERVATION
  • HEALTH, NANOMEDICINE and SAFETY
  • ENVIRONMENT and FOOD QUALITY MONITORING
  • CULTURAL HERITAGE

In addition, its expertise in many fields of fundamental Physics (optics, photonics, condensed matter, etc.) and ICT is exploited to produce "knowledge", which may even provide original products in basic research.

IFAC is the larger institute of the CNR Florence Research Area located at the "Polo Scientifico di Sesto Fiorentino".
