Sleek: Luminar's new 'Halo' lidar sensor
Retaining the 1550 nm laser wavelength from its current platform, the new 'Halo' design measures just 25 mm in height, weighs less than a kilogram, and consumes only 10 W. Luminar says that improvements to key chips and optical integration have yielded huge performance gains at half the cost of the current Iris sensor, while Halo can also be integrated behind a vehicle windshield or together with a camera. The platform is slated for commercial availability in 2026. Image: Luminar Technologies.
