21 Jun 2023 A right-angle prism can be used as a mirror to deviate light by 90 degrees, in this application, they act as very efficient broadband reflectors. If the input and output faces are anti-reflection coated and the hypotenuse leaves clean, you can achieve better than 99% reflectance. (You must specify if your right angle prisms need to be A/R coated when ordering them).
| If the beam input and output from hypotenuse surface(on the same face), right angle prism can be used as a retroreflector, it deflect light by 180 degree after the total internal reflection. Sometimes we do coating on hypotenuse surface and leaves right angle surfaces free to increase the total reflective energy. |
